“California 200″ Off road race killed 8 and injured more.

By admin

August 15, 2010 during the Off road race called the California 200 a typical off road crash turned deadly. It’s very unfortunate for all families and friends effected by this. All blessings from Cali Canna Collective Group (CaliCCG) go out to you all.
The story is that 28 year old Brett Sloppy of San Marcos hit a jump known as “the rock-pile” while racing a lifted Ford Ranger.

Once landing he was hard on the brakes and the truck slide sideway’s, then rolled and landed upside down.

Now this is not a “crazy accurence”, this is Off Road Racing.
The problem is that in many of these off road races, including the CA 200, they do not have guardrails. There is 50 miles of a course to cover. No “security team” could do that, and if so the costs would make racing impossible. Unfortunately many of race fans, especially the younger ones, love to get very close to the trucks and buggies as they race by.

It is that the crash and close fans came together that really made this crash so bad.

Without being able to see the vehicles go by, the sport loses much of it’s fan appeal. That fan appeal leads to big business here in our area. In Southern California, especially in Orange County, Inland Empire and areas surrounding San Diego we see how huge this sport is. You can see hundreds of shops that prep or make these vehicles. Many chase trucks or team vehicles can be seen driving on the road daily. Sense the late 60′s and early 70′s these types of races have been going on in Southern California and Mexico.
Hopefully they can figure out a solution that will keep this sport safe, and fun for many more years to come.
